To compile the 2016 Top Doctors + Nurses List, Portland Monthly invited every licensed medical doctor and registered nurse in Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas County–more than 20,000 professionals in all–to nominate up to three peers in any medical specialty. After the nominations were tallied, Portland Monthly narrowed the list to the top 5 percent of vote recipients in each field. An independent, anonymous panel of doctors and nurse practitioners then reviewed each finalist individually, weighing their education, patient satisfaction surveys, communication skills, and other evidence-based criteria.
