Crisp air, colorful foliage- what’s not to love about fall, especially if you enjoy a good run outdoors? We know there are plenty of running enthusiasts in the Portland/Southwest Washington area, and we want to help them hone their skills so they can run their best this season and beyond. Our runFIT running clinic returns Monday, Oct. 5, with ACE Master Running Coach, Derrick DeLay, of NW Personal Training.
Running’s physical demands on the knees, feet, and ankles leave approximately 80 percent of runners injured each year. Many of these injuries arise from improper technique, lack of conditioning, and overuse. The goal of the runFIT Fundamentals clinic is to equip runners with knowledge of the biomechanics of running in order to prevent injury. By increasing strength and stability, focusing on technique, and addressing how injuries happen, we will help you run smarter, stronger and safer.
runFIT Fundamentals will take place at our newly expanded Pacific Crest Physical Therapy location each Monday at 5:45 p.m. During the six one-hour sessions, ACE Master Running Coach, Derrick DeLay, will help you hone your skills through exercises, drills and soft tissue maintenance techniques.
As a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Medicine, Derrick specializes in teaching athletes how to integrate strength, flexibility, core stability and cardiovascular training into their exercise regimens. His more than seven years of experience as a health and fitness professional will help you improve your performance, whether you’re a beginner or an avid runner.
Here are just a few of the things you can expect from runFIT:
- Increase the muscular strength of your feet, ankles, legs and hips
- Increase the integrity of tendons, ligaments and bones in the foot and leg
- Increase your balance and stability
- Learn biomechanically correct running techniques
