About Dr. Karl Kaluza

Karl N. Kaluza, D.O. is a nonsurgical sports medicine and family medicine physician. He is the team primary care physician for the Portland Trail Blazers and served the same role for the Portland Timbers for 6 years starting in their inaugural season in MLS in 2010. Dr. Kaluza believes in finding and treating the cause of a problem instead of taking medication to relieve the symptoms and that preventing problems is preferable to treating them after they occur. He uses the latest in medical technology, imaging, and laboratory testing but believes the most important path to a diagnosis is listening to his patient.

Dr. Kaluza was chief resident and recognized as a national Strongest Link resident. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at Michigan State University and then spent a year teaching medical students and residents during which time he was named Primary Care Educator of the Year and given the Outstanding Family Practice Faculty Award. He treats non-surgical problems and injuries for athletes and non-athletes. He also maintains a small membership of primary care patients.

In his free time Dr. Kaluza and his family run a free clinic under the Burnside Bridge. He enjoys coaching and teaching. He is always eager for his next mountain bike ride, surf session, soccer game, basketball game, trip to the mountain, hike, swim, run, tennis/pickleball match, golf, or playing with his kids!

From Dr. Karl Kaluza:

It is a great honor that you allow me to be your physician. It is not a job that I take lightly. Some people can leave work behind when they leave the office. I carry you around in my heart when you are feeling down. You are stuck in my head when I think there may be something wrong. You are on my bike rides and squish the path with me on muddy runs. You are on the chairlift and wade the waters with me. You are also in my prayers when the situation calls.

Primary Care Membership Model:

The membership fee applies to primary care patients only. There is no membership fee for seeing me at Rebound for sports medicine, athletic clearance exams, or athletic injuries.

As a member of my practice, patients have improved access for appointments and even more individualized attention. This monthly fee-based membership model does not replace health insurance, as it is billed separately to a credit or debit card each month. This allows me to offer same-day and/or next-day appointments.
