My Comeback Story: Colby O.
In eighth grade, I felt a sharp pain in my knee that would mark the beginning of a long journey in both athletics and resilience. The pain was excruciating and at the time I did not know how serious it was. That is when I met Dr. Ellis at Rebound. After looking at my knee, he informed me that I had torn my meniscus and would require surgery.
Initially, I put off the surgery for a couple of weeks hoping the pain would improve. But it quickly became unbearable. When I decided I needed surgery as soon as possible, Dr. Ellis ensured that it happened within 24 hours. The operation was successful but recovery required dedication. I faced six months of rehabilitation and committed myself fully to the process.
I completed my physical therapy at Rebound, where I worked with Mike, who consistently pushed me to improve. Each session challenged me physically and mentally, helping me rebuild not only my strength but also my confidence. Because of the structured care and encouragement I received, I was able to return in five months instead of the projected six.
I believed my time at Rebound had come to an end until four years later. During a lacrosse practice, I broke my thumb just one day before the TRL League Championship. I was determined to play, but we were unsure whether it would even be possible. After struggling to find a hand specialist in Oregon on short notice, we once again turned to Dr. Ellis for guidance.
Dr. Ellis quickly connected us with a hand specialist at Rebound in Camas, Washington Dr. Jacobs hand specialist. Despite the urgency of the situation, they made room in their schedule and treated me as a priority. The medical team created a custom-molded cast that allowed me to grip my lacrosse stick safely and effectively. Thanks to Dr. Jacobs expertise and willingness to go above and beyond, I was able to compete in the championship game.
Not only did I play, but my team won the league title. That victory meant more than just a trophy it represented perseverance, teamwork, and the impact of having the right support system. I credit much of that opportunity to the care and commitment I received from Rebound.
Throughout both injuries, I felt welcomed, valued, and prioritized. These experiences shaped me into a more resilient athlete and individual. They taught me that setbacks are not the end of a journey but opportunities to grow stronger. Because of the support I received, I was able to return to the field each time with renewed determination and appreciation for the game I love
