My Comeback Story: Jessica W.
I grew up in a skiing family, racing all through my childhood and even getting married on skis with my father skiing me down the hill. To say skiing is a big part of my life is an understatement. In my mid 30s I decided to start skiing gates again, interested in getting into masters racing and getting more serious about it in 2025. That January, on my very first run down a course for the year, I had a very painless fall but while getting up from the fall I twisted my knee in a painful way. After laying there for awhile and the pain diminishing pretty quickly, I stood up and when I tried to turn again, my leg collapsed underneath me. I side slipped down the run and knew that I was done for the day, and likely for a lot longer. After it only seemed to get worse in the following 24 hours, I went into the ER and they determined I likely tore something in my knee and to see an Orthopedist. The following week I was lucky enough to snag an appointment with Dr. Ellis who, on a physical examination, agreed that through the swelling it was likely a fully ACL tear. We went though possible treatment options as well as pre-hab that I should be doing to prepare for likely surgery and scheduled my MRI which confirmed the tear and and an MCL sprain.
Almost exactly a month after the accident and some intense dedication to pre-hab, I was in the OR having surgery. The surgery went seamlessly and the team at Rebound made sure I had all my physical therapy lined up and ready to go for when I was out. On day three after surgery, I fought through my worst day of recovery and the constant feeling of nausea and I saw my PT, Meghan Dillion for the first time. Throughout the last 8 months she has been pressing me through the recovery process and I can confidently say that I'm in some of the best shape of my life. There are still lingering things that I can't do yet at 8 months out- but I've got preemptive clearance to get back on the slopes come December and I couldn't be more excited.
It's been a long 9 months, with a lot of hard work in getting back in shape, but the team at Rebound has made the whole thing so easy and seamless. The integration of the different departments is a game changer and their determination to get you back to where you were before or better is very evident. Dr. Ellis is kind, smart and easy to talk to and Megan has been amazing at pushing me further than I have thought I could go and keeping me on track to meet my goals. After missing last season and dedicating it to rehab, I couldn't be more excited to get back out there this year.
