My Comeback Story: Laura M.
I have an extensive history of compound forearm fractures. My (non-Rebound) doctors provided excellent care but they were not curious about the long-term problems I was experiencing in my hand and arm. They said I had to expect some deficits given all the trauma my arms had experienced. I was determined to get as much functionality and strength back, thinking that mid-50s was way to young to start accepting physical deficits that I didn't have to.
My acupuncturist suggested I see Dr. Cottrill. Finally I found a doctor who was curious about what might be causing my concerns! I originally talked to Dr. Cottrill about performing an ultrasound of my arm, to see what might be causing ongoing nerve issues. (A previous nerve conduction study was inconclusive.) Dr. Cottrill thought doing the ultrasound was a great idea. Not only that, he thought that he and Dr. Kafrouni should do the perform the proceedure together. Now I had two curious doctors working on my behalf!
The ultrasound provided some insight, but the game-changer to come out of that appointment was the suggestion that I try shockwave treatment. I hadn't ever heard of this treatment. It felt like a hail Mary, but I was was willing to try it. A handful of shockwave treatments resolved issues that three years of OT, PT, massage, and acupuncture had not been able to. Those treatments returned functionality and strength to my arm and hand that I had worked so hard to obtain.
I'm grateful that I added Rebound practioners to my care team. Thank you for being curious and using that to help me.
