Hand Therapy

Rebound Orthopedics and Neurosurgery’s hand therapists work closely with our hand and elbow surgeons and doctors from Portland, Vancouver, and Lake Oswego to provide a continuum of care. This can start within days of the injury or surgery and through to your return to a productive lifestyle. We also treat nonoperative conditions and welcome referrals from other practitioners, such as primary care physicians, rheumatologists, and physiatrists.

Hand therapists are occupational therapists or physical therapists who, through advanced study and training, specialize in treating conditions affecting the elbow, wrist, and hand, such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Nerve compression syndromes, such as carpal tunnel
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Tendonitis and tendon lacerations
  • Work-related injuries

Using specialized skills in assessment and treatment, our hand therapists work with you to restore function and enhance participation in daily life through:

  • Custom splint fabrication for post-op protection, pain relief, or to restore motion
  • Design and implementation of exercise programs to increase mobility, strength, or dexterity
  • Pain management/edema reduction
  • Post-op wound and scar management
  • Retraining of daily life skills with adapted equipment or methods
  • Sensory re-education/desensitization after nerve injury

Rebound’s policy requires patients to have a referral for therapy. The referral can come from any medical provider.

There are currently three hand therapy locations:
